Middles States Commission On Higher Education
The Middle States Commission on Higher Education provides accreditation services to schools that fall within the states and areas of Washington DC, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and even as far as Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands. There is also the option for overseas and international schools to seek accreditation through the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). MSCHE is a completely privately managed and non-government affiliated accreditation commission, however they are recognized by the United States Department of Education. The MSCHE is a part of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
The MSCHE accredits a wide range of schools offering degrees ranging from online schools and courses to traditional campus based educational institutes. A full list of the schools with degree programs recognized and accredited by MSCHE can be found on their website located at http://www.msche.org/. Unlike some accrediting bodies the MSCHE accredits and evaluates the complete institute, not just one specific department or program offered by the school. Currently there are over 500 member schools that have been accredited and many schools listed as candidates, which means they are in various stages of the accreditation process. Not all schools that go through the process will be accredited, schools must meet the standards of practice and education as outlined by the MSCHE and must continue to maintain those levels of excellence to continue to be accredited. Schools must complete the accreditation process which includes both a self-evaluation and research component as well as a community based feedback section and a peer review.
The core values of MSCHE include such diverse components as responding to the global education community in diversity and ongoing evolution of teaching and learning research, being transparent about the accreditation process and the standing of each member school within the process, working with the unique populations and challenges faced by each school as well as a commitment to ongoing professionalism, high standards of education and building a learning community and culture within each school or institute. Students selecting a school that has been accredited through MSCHE can be assured of a high quality education that will be uniformly recognized through the United States and even within other countries. Students and faculty will also have the option to work within the accreditation teams, ensuring that the process is both effective and accurate in enhancing the learning experience for all.
