Engineering College Grant
Engineering is a very valuable, diverse and popular major but most students find that pursuing a degree in engineering often requires financial assistance such as grants, scholarships and other financial aid. Numerous specialized grants are available to aspiring engineering students who meet the necessary, specific qualifications. There are many engineering concentrations for students to major in including civil engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and other engineering programs with grants available in any of these majors. The federal government in response to the academic competitiveness issue now offers two new grant programs in addition to the Pell Grant. Part of the reason for these new grants was to force state-run education programs to strengthen their own independent students programs in colleges and universities so there was more competitiveness for high school students applying for the merit based new grants.
The federally funded Pell Grant helps approximately five million part time and full time vocational school students annually across the nation. They award these grants to exceptionally financial needy students with grant amounts from four hundred dollars to approximately four thousand dollars. To be eligible to receive a Pell Grant and the amount of the grant depends upon numerous factors including family size, price of attendance, full or part time status and the family's financial situation. Almost all schools are eligible for the Pell Grant program so students are able to choose the engineering college they want to attend. If you have any questions about the Pell Grant and engineering college you want to attend, talk to their financial aid administrators. As with any federal grants, students must fill out a FAFSA or Free Application for Federal Student Aid form available at state and community agencies, vocational schools, colleges, universities, high schools, and online.
They award the National SMART Grant to students studying engineering, chemistry, math, and or science but students must demonstrate a financial need and keep a high GPA average. This grant is available to engineering students eligible for the government funded Pell Grant, full time students, and during the last two years of engineering undergraduate study. The Academic Competitiveness Grant is available to academically gifted undergraduate sophomores and freshman that are among the upper most academic talented students in the United States. This grant provides students with a maximum of seven hundred and fifty dollars during year one of their undergraduate study and for the second year, a maximum of thirteen hundred dollars. Students must be eligible for a Pell Grant and have completed a strict, demanding high school program. Students in the second year of engineering college must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0.
The National Science Foundation in Washington State along with the Northwest Engineering Talent Expansion Partnership purposes to increase vigorously the number of minorities and women obtaining engineering degrees.
