Minority College Grant
Minority students come from many different backgrounds, often with hardships such as coming from single-family homes, low-income families, parents that do not speak English or various other problems. Fortunately, there are numerous college grants available to see that everyone, regardless of class, gender, ethnic background, or race has the same educational opportunities in the United States as other people. There are many college grants available for non-ethnic and ethnic minorities to help remove the financial worry of attending university or college that most minority students face. This gets minority students started on the road to a more promising, successful future. The amount of minority students graduating from college with a four-year degree has increased drastically over the last ten years.
The federal government and many organizations have grants available for students of nearly every minority group including people that can show they have serious financial hardships and need financial assistance. While minority college grants often go to students with financial needs, students that distinguish themselves from their peers through their athletic skills, creativity, potential or academic achievements often qualify for college or university grants. The Pell Grant programs along with other programs through the federal government have minority college grants available to provide funding for financially needy students and grants specifically for Native Americans, Latin Americans, Mexicans, Asians, blacks, South American, Arab heritage, Hispanic and others. College grants are not just available to minority students with different ethnic backgrounds or financial problems or but also people discriminated against or with difficulties such as the disabled; bi-sexual, lesbian, gay, and transgender individuals; women; and mute, blind, or deaf students.
Some college grants offered to help minorities receive equal education opportunities and benefits include the American Psychological Association Minority Fellowship Program, the American Bar Association Legal Opportunity Scholarship Program and the Actuarial Scholarships for Minority Students. There are also several private businesses and organizations that provide minority college grants to underprivileged races, disabled people, women, religious individuals and other minorities founded on specific criteria and need decided by those awarding the grants.
The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund provides need-based grants of six thousand dollars to approximately twenty-five or thirty graduate and undergraduate students annually that actively work to fight homophobia, sexism and racism. Every year the Sons of Italy National Leadership Grants Competition awards ten to thirteen Italian descent graduate and undergraduate student grants from four thousand to twenty-five thousand dollars. The Aspen Institute-William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship for Minority Students offers their own grant for students that meet the standards outlined at their website. They award research grants of twenty five hundred to five thousand dollars annually to minority students in undergraduate and graduate programs interested in increasing knowledge of philanthropy and the nonprofit sector. Minority college grants are a good way to help finance a college education and remove financial worries so it is important to explore the many grants available.
