One of the primary problems most students that want a career in music face is difficulty finding the funds necessary to pay for their music education. With the cost of private lessons, expensive instruments, tuition, books and more, it becomes very costly and financially draining. Some of the many grants and scholarships available to students pursuing a music career include the Amateur Chamber Music Players, Inc., which supports unique music related projects in Canada and the United States. The average grant is three thousand dollars and their primary objective is to encourage and introduce chamber music into the community college music curriculum.
Available for Connecticut residents, the Stamford Symphony Orchestra Instrumental Scholarship awards grants to senior students that are entering college and pursuing a music performance career. The awards are five thousand dollars annually with a total of twenty thousand dollars for first place. Second place is four thousand dollars at one thousand dollars annually and third place is five hundred dollars total. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Scholarship is available in New York City and Cleveland to high school seniors with an interest in the business of music studies or pursuing music at the college level. They divide the fifty thousand dollar scholarship evenly between New York City and Cleveland and base the Rock and Roll Hall of fame awards on music student's personal essays.
The AMCofA or Associated Male Choruses of America offers awards to male students in amounts from two hundred to eight hundred dollars. They must be members of the AMCA. The Strings Magazine Scholarship Award provides grants of three thousand dollars maximum to undergraduate students enrolled and majoring in music performance of bowed instruments or music education. They establish these awards on community service, merit, and financial need.
