Undergraduate College Grant
Financial advisors tell parents that saving for their child's education should begin upon their birth. The state government offered tax-free incentives and state managed savings accounts but a large number of Americans were remiss in saving for university or college. The result is an increase in the number of private banking institutions now offering corporate and private student loans. Students seeking a university or college education often worry about how to pay for their schooling, especially if they do not qualify for any more loans or scholarships. Fortunately, there are numerous grants available specifically for students entered in undergraduate degree programs. Removing the financial worry makes continuing your undergraduate college education so much easier.
The Federal Pell Grant provides awards to financially needy undergraduate students to help them complete their bachelor's degree or a postsecondary education. There are more than five thousand participating colleges and universities where students can use their Federal Pell Grant. The amount of the grant depends upon several factors including if the student attends college part time or full time; the cost of college determined by the school; the EFC or students Expected Family Contribution; and if the student goes to college for a entire academic year. The grants normally range from approximately four hundred dollars to four thousand dollars. Any student applying for a Federal Pell Grant must fill out a FAFSA or Free Application for Federal Student Aid form.
The United States Department of Education offers the Academic Competitiveness Grant for undergraduate college students and provides a maximum of seven hundred and fifty dollars for the first year of study and for the second year, a maximum of thirteen hundred dollars. To qualify students must be eligible for the Federal Pell Grand and attend school full time. Students in second year of undergraduate study must keep a GPA or cumulative grade point average of no less than 3.0.
The National SMART Grant or The National Science & Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant is available to full time students throughout their third and forth years of undergraduate study. They must be majoring in engineering, technology, mathematics, computer, life or physical sciences, or a foreign language vital to national security. Along with receiving the Federal Pell Grant, third and forth year undergraduate students will receive up to four thousand dollars annually to eligible National SMART Grant students.
Several universities and colleges also provide undergraduate college grants, especially for women and ethnic minorities. Some of the many undergraduate student grants for less advantaged include the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts, who are particularly interested in minorities studying in fields that are not represented well such as mathematics, engineering, biology, computer science, and science. It is important to spend the time finding information on undergraduate college grants as a grant can relieve your financial burdens giving you more time to spend on studies and less time to worry about finances.
