College Grant for Women

Over the years, women have faced many adversities especially in areas of industry specific careers and higher education. Even though they have come a long way, women still need representation in the education field. More women than men complete undergraduate degrees but numerous educations believe that colleges and universities do not engage women students or, for some female students, they do not nurture and support their non-traditional interests and roles. More women than ever have gained entrance into universities and colleges in the last decades but minority women still face a more difficult time. Private women's colleges across the United States continue to thrive because co-ed universities and colleges do not engage many females on integral points of interest. Private educational institutions for women include interests and activities that appeal to all women across the board. Heavily financed by private contributions, most colleges and universities have grants and financial aid available to women allowing even the most financially challenged students to continue their education. Colleges for women give students a large array of educational opportunities ranging from competitive athletics to calm academic surroundings. Nearly all colleges and universities promote diversity and offer generous merit and need based grants and scholarships. In Atlanta, Georgia, the historically black Spelman College extends grants and scholarships based on merit, course of study or need to incoming female students on a regular basis. This institution is the only college that historically serves the education and interests of African American women. Another Atlanta college for women is the Agnes Scott College that provides grants and scholarships based on merit. The college has a Goizueta Foundation Scholarship, which offers a fully funded tuition to Hispanic female students. They honor Hispanic women with financial needs that require tuition assistance that have shown leadership ability and high academic standards.

Over forty percent of the females attending private women's colleges obtain substantial financial aid packages such as scholarships and grant funds straight from the college. These grants are not only available to low income female students as numerous middle income women students also qualify. To guide young women's future careers, private women's colleges must maintain healthy graduate associations that work to reserve educational funds. In Massachusetts, the Wellesley College has no scholarships or grants available based only on merit. Each academic year Wellesley College spends millions of dollars to support incoming student's education needs from all backgrounds. The Davis Program offers non-traditional students the unique opportunity to achieve a graduate or bachelor's certificate or degree. In New York, the Barnard College provides grants to women based on needs but also promote supplementing federal student college grants and loans with outside grants and scholarships. At Barnard College, the Office of the Dean regularly publishes updated lists of private grants and scholarships available through, but not funded by the college.
