Cosmetology Scholarship

There are several memorial scholarships, school scholarships and even company scholarships that are available to cosmetology students. Many in cosmetology school don't realize that the funds are available and many scholarships go without being awarded each year simply because students aren't aware they exist to put in applications. Like any type of vocational training cosmetology courses are expensive, so finding scholarships that don't require the student to pay them back can really help in overall funding of the program.

Some of the cosmetology scholarships are through private foundations and organizations that work within the capacity of helping women and families. Once such foundation is the Sunshine Lady Foundation, Inc that offers the Women's Independence Scholarship Program. This scholarship is designed to assist women that have been involved in abusive relations to be able to return to school and earn a trade or degree. This scholarship is based on both the type of education that the woman is pursuing as well as a demonstrated need for financial assistance to be able to complete the program of study. The same organization also offers a scholarship to those individuals working at domestic violence shelters and women's support agencies that wish to return to school to increase their ability to provide assistance.

Another source for cosmetology scholarships are companies that provide goods or services to the beauty industry. Sally Scholar is one such scholarship program. Sally Beauty Supplies provides scholarships, in partnership with the National Cosmetology Association for up to $1000 dollars per student. The company also offers student discount cards that help with purchasing products. Like the National Cosmetology Association, CAF or the Cosmetology Advancement Foundation also offers scholarships of up to $1000 dollars per student. This program is called the ACE Grant Program. Emphasis is placed on all students having access to these scholarships which would include both female, male and minority students. Cosmetology competitions may also be sources of grants or scholarship opportunities. The Sally Open, which is a national event, provides a United States based stylist with the highest score in the competition with a $10,000 scholarships plus the opportunity to go on and represent the USA in an international competition.

Organizations that provide cosmetology scholarships can include regional businesses and foundations as well. One such scholarship is the Liza Warner Scholarship which is specific for high school graduates that are attending either the Austin or Orlo School of Beauty. The Robert and Irene Kimber Cosmetology Scholarship is specific to full time cosmetology students attending Idaho State University. To apply for this scholarship students must be completing their studies full time as well as maintaining a strong grade point average and being able to demonstrate their support requirement.
