Balancing your family and your schoolwork
A common reason why people choose to learn at home is so they can spend more time with their families. While taking an online course certainly allows this to happen, it's important to be able to maintain a healthy balance between study time and family time. There are several tips to follow in order to be sure that you do well in school while still getting to be with those you love. First, be sure to set some ground rules before you begin taking classes. Sit down with your family and let them know what your potential schedule will be. Make sure that it's clear ahead of time that certain times in the day or evening will require you to be alone for a while, and that you need to remain undisturbed. If you let them know this before you begin and explain the importance of it, they will respect your quiet time and study time.
Trying to get the whole family involved with your schooling is actually a great idea in spite of what one may think. Have your children set up their study and reading times alongside yours. Serve a snack and gather together in the same room. Designate it as "quiet time", and have everyone participate in learning together. This way, your children don't feel left out and can also benefit by being there and doing their schoolwork as well. Of course, when the stress of school can be a little bit too much, take a break! Make sure that you always make time for play and relaxation. Go to the park and take a nice walk, or have a nice time in the evening with the kids in the backyard in between study times. This will help to alleviate stress and will allow you to spend some quality time with your family. Doing well with online learning and still having the time to spend with those you love is possible. Good time management and creative ways of organizing your special moments together can make for a well-rounded and fulfilling experience.
