Earnings Expectations for Degree Earners

Getting a Career: Salary Prediction w/ your Degree

While the thought of attending college in itself has its own romantic virtues, most of us know that the real reason we want that piece of paper is so we can get a good, well-paying career. The school of thought tells us that the better the degree and the better the school, the better the job we should get when we're fresh of out of college. While going to an excellent school certainly never hurt anybody, the degree earned is really what matters. Varying degrees carry varying levels of "respect": the Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's, Post-Graduate, Graduate, and Ph.D. are the most common of the bunch. What can someone expect to earn on average if they carry any one of these degrees? Aside from the field of work chosen, the general consensus for who earns what just by holding a particular degree is as follows:

Associate's Degree – This is typically a two year degree with an overall emphasis on hands-on training in order to gain job placement. Typically, one can expect to earn anywhere from $18-$29,000 or possibly more by holding an Associate's Degree.

Bachelor's Degree – The Bachelor's requires a good, solid 4-year run of college learning. Typically the Bachelor's is where the student earns his or her wings in a certain field, making their knowledge valuable in the workplace. On average a Bachelor's Degree holder can expect to make somewhere in the range of $32-$50,000 per year.

Master's Degree – The Master's is a coveted degree that requires a lot of extra hard work, and in most cases a minimum of an additional 4 years of schooling (sometimes more). The Master's Degree can also be grouped in the Graduate and Post-Graduate categories. For most, a Master's Degree earns them a salary of about $65-$100,000 yearly or even more.

Ph.D. – The Ph.D. is also known as the Doctor of Philosophy Degree. This is perhaps the highest form of degree available today. Most if not all doctors have earned their Ph.D. Typically a large thesis must be written in addition to everything else in order to earn the degree, and those holding this high honor usually earn anywhere from $125,000 per year and up.
