Online College Application Process

Application Process and Forms Normally Required

Applying to colleges can be a stressful time. It seems as though a mountain of paperwork is often required. If you need to know whether or not you've gotten into that special college you've been dreaming of attending, you should definitely know what's required to apply beforehand. In addition, each University has their own deadlines, so be sure to adhere to them or you might end up left out in the cold. Some colleges even have their own categories of application deadlines such as Early Decision deadlines. Those who turn in their application by this date usually get a response much sooner than those who wait till, say, the Regular Decision deadline.

The first thing to remember when filling out a college application is accuracy. Be sure to fill in all forms when possible, then check and double check them to be sure that everything is correct. Handwritten applications can sometimes be difficult for administrators to read, so try and type your application, or if possible, submit it online. If neither of these is an option, just be sure to write everything as neatly and clearly as possible so that it can easily be read. You will also need various forms of information as a supplement to your application. Typically these things consist of: identification (driver's license, birth certificate, social security card, etc), high school transcripts, and SAT scores. In addition you may opt to submit extra pieces of information such as letters of recommendation.

Other than the usual application fare, some institutions also require an admission essay. Usually this essay highlights why you want to attend that particular school, what your strengths and accomplishments are, and what you have to bring to the school in the form of your own personal talents and abilities. Check into the school you're interested in to see if they require an essay and if so, what the subject is. Most universities also have an application fee attached. Usually this ranges anywhere from $15 to $50, depending on the school. Look into all of the things needed, pay attention to deadlines, and submit everything required to the best of your ability in a timely manner, and you should have no problems getting accepted into the college of your choice.
