General Requirements for Enrollment in an Online University
General Online University Enrollment Requirements
So you've decided to take the plunge and enroll in online college classes. Just like a regular college, there are basic requirements that must be met in order to enroll. Of course the first thing one must be is of the appropriate age. Most online universities require you to be at least 17 years of age, and proof this by submitting the proper identification. The next step in enrolling in online courses is your previous education. Typically, you must have at least a GED or high school diploma before you can enroll. But that's not all. You will have to take a preliminary skills assessment test before enrolling as well. These tests are designed to find out where you will fit in academically, and at what level. These tests are usually fairly simple and just evaluate basic skills to be sure that you are capable of learning the courses you have signed up for. These tests also help the university determine which level you should be placed at when you enroll.
You may think that the SAT test is only required by "big time" colleges and universities. This is not always the case. If an online university is good, and especially if it is fully accredited, it may require you to submit your SAT scores. Be sure you have taken the SAT before enrolling in any college courses, and that you have your official scores readily available. If you're transferring over from one university to another, most have minimal requirements before they will allow you to enroll. Overall most require you to have at least a 2.70 grade point average on a scale of 4.00 coming into their program.
Some universities also require that you had at least a B average in high school, and that you were among the top 50th percentile in your class. All of these are things for current high school students to keep in mind if they have set high goals for themselves. Your track record can really help determine where you will go in the future. Once you've gotten your paperwork, test scores, and high school diploma together, you're ready to apply for enrollment. Check with your individual school for any other requirements before enrolling, and you'll be well on your way to beginning your journey with online college classes.
