Business Schools

There are several different types of business schools and colleges for business studies within the United States and even international students that wish to study in the US. Each of these schools will offer two and four year programs of study, however some may also offer Master in Business Administration (MBA) and/ or Masters programs in International Business, Accounting, Taxation, Information Management Systems, Marketing and Sales, Finance and Human Resource management. Typically business schools will also provide certificate or diploma programs in various areas of specialization for current professionals working in the business field or for those that wish to gain specific information on a business subject area without completing a degree. These programs may be several weeks in length or may be longer, depending on the specific business course.

The rising demand for graduates of either Bachelor or Master's level programs in all areas of business has dramatically increased the demand for both on campus and online business degree programs. Many colleges for business offer both on campus and online options, with students being able to complete programs at their own pace and even in accelerated programs depending on their area of specialization and current level of experience in the field. If you are a current professional or are working in a business career, these streamlined courses can allow you to complete your degree from the comfort of your own home or office while still having access to the same faculty, information and training as you would enrolled in a traditional campus based degree program.

When considering a business college or business school it is important to do some research and ensure that the school offers the area of specialization that you are interested in. Also make sure that the credits that you earn can be transferred to the school of your choice at a later date should you decide to continue with your education. Most accredited business schools will allow a specific number of credits from other colleges or business schools, however be sure to confirm specifics to avoid being disappointed. Business schools and colleges tend to use professionals as faculty members and prospective students should also consider the faculty that will be providing instruction as well as the reputation of the school itself. Look for faculty that has experience in your area of interest as well as the level of education and instructional experience that the faculty has. Most business colleges will use faculty that has a significant work experience as business leaders as well as at least MBAs or Master of Science in Business degrees.

Business degrees are not always the same length as traditional degrees, especially if you are taking an executive or professional development class for certification or a diploma. Check to see how long the course of study is and if you can specialize in more than one area or obtain a dual degree in various business areas during your course of study. Working closely with an advisor or counselor through the business college will help structure your classes and ensure you complete the courses you need for your career goal.
