Computer Networking Schools

In the business world the demand for professional, trained and degreed computer networking professionals continues to increase as more and more business is completed using secure internet connections rather than other forms of communication. Professionals in computer networking can work directly for small or large companies or organizations, or may also be consultants or have their own companies, working on a contract basis to design, install, monitor and troubleshoot existing computer networking systems. Computer networking professionals can also be hired by government agencies either at a local, state or federal level or may even work with other governments or countries in expanding networking and computer systems throughout different areas of the country.

Since computer networking degrees are highly specialized within the field, there are several options or specific fields of study that students can pursue once in the program. Most courses are offered either in traditional on-campus type programs or through online formats. In some cases professionals already working in computer networking or computer type jobs can use their current experience and training to reduce the actual courses to complete the degree or they may be able to find an accelerated program that allows their work experience to count towards their course requirements. Online programs are the most common option for those seeking an accelerated or customized type of computer networking degree. Typically computer networking schools will offer several different levels of education ranging from certification in a particular system, software or program, through to Associate, Bachelor, Master or professional development certificates or diplomas. Finding the right program to match your educational needs is important to ensure that you will have the credentials and the training needed to pursue your educational goals.

It is important whenever considering an information technology degree to consider schools that are known for being on the cutting edge of technology as well as those that consistently produce high quality graduates. Doing some research with regards to school ranking based on graduate employment rates, talking to professionals in the computer networking field to find out what school they obtained their degree from or reading various online comparisons of schools is important. With online schools and programs you have a much wider range of where to study, however there are also online schools that are not accredited and degrees and certifications from these schools may not be as valued in the workplace as from the higher ranked schools. Look for schools with successful graduates that are currently working in the field you are interested in as well as those that have professional, degreed faculty that are leaders in the computer networking field. Most schools will provide this information on their information and faculty page as well as what organization or organizations they are accredited with or through.

Computer networking degrees will include training in security and network management and administration, network design and development, hardware and software, network directory service and authentication and operating systems. Further education beyond the Associates or Bachelor level in computer networking will allow for greater specialization within the field.
