Rasmussen College's Association of Applied Science in Health Information Technology degree program teaches students about privacy and ethics issues required when working with private and confidential patient information, medical coding, communication skills dealing with the public, and front office management responsibilities in a healthcare setting.  Students receive training in computers, human sciences, reimbursement and coding, quality improvement, health information management and content, health information legal aspects.

Graduates with an Associate of Applied Science in health information technology have acquired the skills and knowledge required to work in various settings including community and private hospitals, physician's offices, healthcare facilities, nursing and assisted living homes, and university hospitals.  Graduates accept positions in areas such as an entry-level coder, supervisor, data analyst, quality improvement assistant, utilization management assistant, abstractor and medical records technician.
