Becoming a nurse is a very respectful and proud moment in a person's life. Those who desire to be nurses have something very special; they want to help others. An LPN stands for Licensed Practical Nurse. This means that in most cases, the student has had at least twelve months of schooling, including some hands on experience. In addition, an LPN must pass state mandated licensing tests, and update their license on a fairly regular basis (this will vary from state to state). In most cases, an LPN works under the supervision of a physician, RN (Registered Nurse), or both. A BSN is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This degree is usually achieved after someone has already met the prerequisites to become a LPN. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is the next step forward to becoming a Registered Nurse, which means actual surgical assistance and other serious tasks can be practiced.
